The key to this success is four fold:1. From hundreds of meetings across the country notes were taken about the myriad of AA tools used over the years. These notes were consolidated to those tools that produced the most success- the tools that produced the biggest “Bang for the buck” so to speak.2. The key, most important, passages from the Big Book are included. As well, some techniques only vaguely mentioned in the Big Book are shown because they have been so successful when refined and applied.3. Having Sobriety Secrets “In hand” either in the form of the two sided bookmark (sobrietysecrets.net) or on their smart phone provides a ready resource for the unexpected events in life. Many times newcomers do not yet have enough “sobriety insurance” to fend off difficult moments. With Sobriety Secrets “in their hands”, those difficult moments can usually be handled without drinking.4. “We cannot keep it unless we give it away.” Sobriety Secrets in either the bookmark form or the electronic Kindle eBook form along with a Big Book is very easy to share with newcomers, those coming back in and those just having a tough time. It provides a very effective way to share the program. A newcomer can be overwhelmed at first. They are told to “come to meetings and read the Big Book,” but it is like telling a drowning person to “Come on, just a little farther and you will be saved.” Most just continue to flail until they sink. They need to “Jump start” their program and Sobriety Secrets does that. Think of it as a life preserver, the newcomer only needs it until they get their feet firmly on the ground, but without it they never reach solid ground and long term sobriety.“What could possibly be different this time?” This is the most common fear of those coming back in after relapsing. Sobriety Secrets has been that difference. We have been overwhelmed with gratitude that so many coming back in from a relapse or just having a really tough time have been able to use Sobriety Secrets to finally have long term sobriety and to live a happy, sane life. The Twelve Steps are the logical process by which an alcoholic finds and maintains sobriety and cleans up their life. It has been the history of AA that any alcoholic who has followed this program without deviation has remained sober. “Rarely (almost never) have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly (in detail, without exception) followed our path.” pg 58Those who have cut corners in AA, not worked all of the steps with a sponsor, and not helped others have eventually failed in recovery. Those who do not grab on to the AA program like a drowning person- those who do not make sobriety the most important thing in their life, usually end up dying the alcoholic death rather than living a life happy, joyous and free, a life they would not be trade for any other life.Desperate people often come to AA just to stop drinking, but that is not the real gift. This program is about getting a second chance at life, happily living life on life’s terms, truly, having a life second to none. Sobriety Secrets by Tom S.
